Earth Hour
Saturday, March 28th, 2009. Posted in General | No Comments »On Saturday 28 March 2009 the School of Natural and Built Environments and the Adelaide Planetarium will take part in Earth Hour. On that day, people in Australia and around the world will turn off their lights between 8.30-9.30 pm for one hour – Earth Hour – showing their support and sending a powerful global message that it’s possible to take action on climate change and succeed.
In 2009, at the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference in December, the world’s leaders will meet to reach a new global climate deal. There has never been a more important time to participate in Earth Hour and join the world in a visual mandate to fight climate change.
We already know that hundreds of cities all around the world, including all Australian capitals, have agreed to turn off their lights. Earth Hour will take place in London, Beijing, Rome, Moscow, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Mexico City, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Manila, Las Vegas and Cape Town – to name a few.
The School of Natural & Built Environments and the Adelaide Planetarium have chosen to sponsor Earth Hour as a positive message of hope and action, emphasising what people can do when they act together. It will also mean that we will be part of a global reach of 1 billion people in 1,000 cities who, by simply switching all their non-essential lights off, will show their support for action on climate change.
Come and join us to celebrate and support Earth Hour at our free events being held at Mawson Lakes Campus.
