I should have posted this a long time ago, but I couldn’t be bothered doing it. Live Mail is now open to live.xx registrations since early November. If you’re tired of your @hotmail.com address, sign up for a live.xx address.

Just go to: http://www.hotmail.com, this will take you to Live Mail and then click on “Sign Up”.
